POINT LOMA

Our final day was spent on a harbor cruise of San Diego.  Lee especially enjoyed this because of the naval presents there. The cruise guy related a lot of naval history that happened in this area.  Then Lee started to converse with the man behind and found that he too, was a radio operator on a sub.  They had a lot to talk about.  Lee learned that the Marriott was built on the old Liberty Station site that once held barracks that he lived in during 1966 when he was training.
After the cruise we headed over to Anthony's for a bowl of clam chowder and lobster tail.  That was the best soup. Its almost worth a trip just to get a bowl and go to Miguel's Mexican Restaurant.
We had packed that morning and set out to find a motel that was on the CHEAP end because the Marriott broke the bank.  After hunting for a few blocks we decided to stop at the Dolphin Inn because it looked clean. It sat among these giant hotels just begging for a look.  It was right out of the '50's.  The rooms were small but clean.  The owner was on site and made us welcome.  He employed people who wore shirts and ties and the 2 women who cleaned the rooms were very friendly. The beds bounced with old springs and surprisingly gave us our best nights sleep. Miguel's was just around the corner so we had to go there again.

The motel owner encouraged us to go out to Point Cabrillo before we left.  These pictures are from the beach. I sincerely think that I could live by the ocean. The sounds of the waves hitting the beach and the rocks have such a peaceful sound.  This walk was wonderful.  We then headed over to the visitors center to learn more about the history of Juan Cabrillo. Then we went outside to look at the vistas.  We had to look fast because the fog was literally rolling in fast and quiet.  We were never able to climb up to the statues because of the fog.

We left after this and got on the freeway to head home.  With an overnighter in Mesquite we were in Sandy by 2:00 picking up a happy puppy.  We were glad to get home but the trip was wonderful and will definitely plan another road trip to somewhere else soon.
